The client with a peptic ulcer should avoid foods that increase stomach acidity, such as caffeine, de-caffeinated coffee, frequent milk intake, citric acid juices, and certain seasonings (hot chili pep-pers, chili powder, black pepper). Smoking, alcohol, and aspirin are also discouraged.
