Qualitative research is based on a constructivist philosophy, which assumes that reality is composed of multiple socially constructed realities of each person or group and is therefore value laden, focusing on personal beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. Constructivism assumes an approach that is inductive (Newman, 2000). Inductive reasoning generalizes from specific facts. Qualitative research usually results in data expressed in words, often in the form of a narrative.
