Once a maintenance dosage of penicillamine is reached, the blood and urine follow-up should continue every 2 weeks for 6 months and then monthly thereafter for as long as the patient rece-ives the medication.

Penicillamine, a breakdown product of penicillin, is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It relieves symptoms of arthritis and in some ways stops the disease progression.
