Moderate to large doses of atropine increase the heart rate by blocking parasympathetic vagal stimulation. The exacerbation of the parasympathetic vagal stimulation is opposite the effect of atropine. The blockage of histamine is seen with the antihistamine medications, not anticholinergic agents. Atropine does not block cell wall synthesis.
