Nitazoxanide (Alinia) is an antiprotozoal agent used specifically for treating diarrhea resulting from infection with Giardia lamblia or Cryptosporidium parvum. It is not used in the treatment of diarrhea associated with E. coli, Salmonella, or Campylobacter jejuni.
