C. Allowing alcohol to dry completes its antimicrobial task and reduces sting of venipuncture. Alcohol left on skin can cause hemolysis of sample.
A. Hold finger to be punctured in dependent position while gently massaging finger toward puncture site to increase blood flow to area before puncture.
B. Select lateral side of finger; be sure to avoid the central top of finger which has more dense nerve supply.
D. Gently massage finger toward puncture site to increase blood flow to area before puncture.
