What kinds of instruments are used in the beiguan ensemble recording of Qi Cun Lian (Seven-Inch Lotus)? What kind of music does this ensemble perform? (Be sure to use the instrumental and not the vocal version of this music.)

Answer to Question 1

 The suona or double-reed wind instrument (similar to the Western oboe)
 Various percussion instruments (See author's field notes describing the percussion instruments.)
 The melody (Seven-inch Lotus) is presented through four renditions.

Answer to Question 2

 The beiguan ensemble on this recording is a band of wind and percussion players
who perform outdoor ritual music, predominantly at funerals and temple festivities.
