 The suona or double-reed wind instrument (similar to the Western oboe)
 Various percussion instruments (See author's field notes describing the percussion instruments.)
 The melody (Seven-inch Lotus) is presented through four renditions.

 The beiguan ensemble on this recording is a band of wind and percussion players
who perform outdoor ritual music, predominantly at funerals and temple festivities.
