Answer to Question 1

The suona or double-reed wind instrument (similar to the Western oboe)
Various percussion instruments (See author's field notes describing the percussion instruments.)
The melody (Seven-inch Lotus) is presented through four renditions.

Answer to Question 2

The intensity of the music, the interplay among the different sounds of the various percussion instruments, and the author's desire to join and learn to perform with such a group.
