Answer to Question 1

Heat pump hot water heaters are air-to- water systems that use the air surrounding the unit as the heat source, and the water in the hot water system as the heat sink.

Answer to Question 2

The active metering device is determined by the internal check valve inside the metering device. When liquid flows from the liquid line into the metering device, the check valve closes, and the metering device becomes active. When liquid flows from the coil out of the metering device, the check valve opens allowing full, unrestricted flow.
