The air foil shaped blades allow for a smoother air flow across the blade that results in less turbulence and noise.

Answer to Question 2

Never drop or abuse the gauge manifold.
Keep ports or charging lines capped when not in use. Never use any fluid other than clean oil and refrigerant.
