Answer to Question 1

True

Answer to Question 2

The Ptolemaic model was geocentric, with uniform circular motion. Observing the orbits of Jupiter's moons would conflict with this model, because it shows objects orbiting a body other than the Earth. The complete set of phases of Venus observed on Earth could not be explained by the Ptolemaic model. In that model, Venus moves around an epicycle centered on a line between Earth and the Sun, so Venus should always be seen as a crescent.
