Answer to Question 1

Two waves are in phase with one another when they are displaced at all times in the
same direction will produce a brighter region on a screen.

Answer to Question 2

The phase of the vibrating particle experiencing the disturbance is a measure of its
position (an angular measurement) in reference to its equilibrium position.
