In an electric furnace used for refining steel, the temperature is monitored by measuring the radiant power emitted through a small hole in the wall of the furnace, of area 0.5 cm2.

This hole acts like a perfect blackbody radiator having the same temperature as the interior of the furnace. If the temperature of the furnace (and therefore of the hole) is to be maintained at 1650C, how much power will the hole radiate? A) 20 W
  B) 30 W
  C) 40 W
  D) 50 W

  B) quadruple.
  C) be cut in half.
  D) be cut in fourth.

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
