Answer to Question 1

China has played a significant role in Korea from the beginning. During the period of the Three Kingdoms, the tribal states of the North were under Han China. Particularly in the south, the influence of China was rejected over the last 2,000 years, with a Korean alphabet replacing Chinese. China and Japan have also had more recent influences on Korea, with incursions from Japan and China over the last 500 years. Following World War II, Korea was split into North and South, a division that still exists today.
