Yes, vitamin B12, zinc and copper are particularly a problem with ileostomies.

Answer to Question 2

Allowing the small bowel to rest (NPO) will give the medications a chance to reduce the inflammation and hopefully eliminate it. The passage of food at this time would only cause further irritation. An elemental diet, or possibly a peptide formula, could be used so that digestion would not be necessary and the feeding could be absorbed more easily.
