Answer to Question 1

30 cc/h  24 hr = 720  2 for half strength = 360 cc

360  L.5 kcals/cc = 540 kcals
360 = .36 L  54.9 g/L = 19.8 g protein

50 cc/h  24 = 1200 cc
1200  1.5 kcals/cc = 1800 kcals
1.2 L  54.9 g/L = 66 g protein

Answer to Question 2

An extremely reliable test for confirming a Dx of CF is the quantitative pilocarpine iontophoresis sweat test. False negatives are possible but rare1 . The test is conducted by placing two electrodes on a test area of the body and the iontophoresis unit is turned on for 10 to 12 mins. The electrodes are removed and paraffin covered paper disks are placed over the test site. After an hour, the paraffin is removed and the paper disks are analyzed for Na and Cl. Results of >90 mEq/l Na and >60 mEq/l of Cl suggest CF.
