Answer to Question 1

Capillary glucose meter: a hand held instrument that determines glucose in a drop of blood obtained from a capillary finger stick.

Pre- and postprandial: before and after a meal.

Euglycemia: a normal level of glucose in the blood.

Macrosomia: abnormally large body, referring here to an abnormally high birth weight.

Answer to Question 2

The high-fiber diet along with the stool volume expander would increase the bulk (with adequate water) of the waste material and cause a decrease in luminal pressure, thus allowing the diverticula to relax. The increased bulk would cause increased passage through the intestines, allowing less time for bacterial by-products of digestion.
