Answer to Question 1

A decrease in activity accompanied by an increase in eating resulted in weight gain in an individual who is already overweight. As his size increased, his activity level decreased even more, causing him to increase in weight. The lack of activity resulted in TB sitting around the house getting bored. This led to eating to pass the time, which led to additional weight gain. While this cycle was developing, TB's friends were teasing him about his size. He had a hard time fitting into their cars. This encouraged him to stay at home. Once he lost his job, he had more idle time to get bored. His family should have encouraged him to lose weight and get out of the house instead of feeding his habit.

Answer to Question 2

Make sure the diet is balanced and follows the principles previously mentioned. Usually there is a meat, a starch, a vegetable, a fruit, 2 oz of skim milk, and a half pat of margarine at each meal, no more than an equivalent of 60 cc of each at a time. The milk is before or after the meal. The remainder of the calorie and protein requirements can be met with liquid high-kcal/protein supplements.
