Answer to Question 1

1

Rationale: Supplements that are high in protein and/or calories should be encouraged. Foods high in insoluble fiber may increase transit time through the colon exacerbating diarrhea. Many antiretroviral medications have specific food-medication instructions that need be followed by HAART protocol. Maintaining good mouth care will have little effect on diarrhea.

Answer to Question 2

A
MODS usually results in a stress response and a hypermetabolic state. Marasmus or kwashiorkor may result if the patient is already poorly nourished or if nutrition support is inadequate, but pro-tein-energy malnutrition is not generally a result of MODS.
