Answer to Question 1

2

Rationale: Adequate folic acid intake is associated with a decreased risk of neural tube defect. It is recommended that all females of childbearing age should increase their intake to 400 mcg/day. Both overweight and underweight conditions are associated with reduced probability of conception. Increasing calcium is recommended for reduction of PMS/PMDD symptoms. Women of childbearing age should be concerned with adequate iron levels. Increased requirement during pregnancy predispose females to risk of poor iron status. Decreased iron levels are associated with an increased risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight.

Answer to Question 2

C
The increase in number of adipocytes is known as hyperplasia. Hypertrophy refers to an increase in cell size. Mutation describes changes that occur in cells, for example in cancer or genetic de-fects. Maturation describes a time-related process.
