Kwashiorkor results mainly from acute critical illnesses such as trauma, sepsis, and other illnesses seen in intensive care units. The nutritional support used in marasmus is slow. Nutritional support that is protein restrictive or protein delayed is not associated with the treatment of Kwashiorkor.
