Since clients might not be ready to hear or accept patterns in their feelings or behaviors as valid, the practitioner should
 
  a. refrain from identifying patterns until s/he is sure the client will respond favorably.
  b. be directive and confident when stating the pattern to convince the client.
 c. ask for family members to help the practitioner in reinforcing the validity of the pattern.
  d. be tentative in their tone of voice.

In groups, the practitioner should
 
  a. not only look at the person speaking but also scan the other group members.
  b. only look at the person who is speaking and give him or her undivided attention.
  c. direct all questions to the person who is talking
 d. encourage members to refrain from speaking to other members of the group.
