The first law of thermodynamics states that:
 a. energy can only be released from a system through the process of oxidation.
  b. energy can be created, destroyed, or change forms.
  c. energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only change forms.
  d. energy stored in a biomass decreases with each successive trophic level.

Question 2

How does Earth as a planet compare to an orbiting space station in terms of providing a life support system for its inhabitants? Other than size, what are some of their differences and similarities in terms of habitation?

Differences could include the fact that the space station requires inputs of matter and does not contain a self-regulating ecosystem.
