FEEDBACK: Before the proprium begins to emerge, the infant experiences no self-consciousness, no awareness of self. There is not yet a separation of me from everything else. Infants receive sensory impressions from the external environment and react to them automatically and reflexively, with no ego to mediate between stimulus and response.
