Answer to Question 1

The purpose of this question is to focus student attention on the fact that a variety of local, and even unexpected, events will affect their advertising and promotion activities. Hosting a very well-known guest is just one such example. The question also asks students to consider the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing advertising (which may cost an operation a significant amount of money) and utilizing promotions (which may or may not cost as much) as the best means of communicating with their target markets.

Answer to Question 2

This is done by using a crumber (handheld scraper), a mechanical handheld vacuum, or a clean napkin. When using a napkin, it should be tightly folded or rolled, then remove crumbs or food particles by sweeping onto a plate, small tray, or into
another napkin, not into the other hand.
