Answer to Question 1

The Turks and Greeks share many foods. A source of debate is Which came first the
dishes from Turkey to Greece or from Greece to Turkey. This is an obvious question
because so many of the foods are very similar. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
They both explored and conquered each other's lands throughout the centuries, and as
late as the early 20th Century when over 1 million Turkish Christians were driven into
Greece it was still going on. Some of the common dishes that they share are flatbreads,
baklava, dolmas, kebabs, kofte, mezzes, spanakopita (borek), Some of the common foods
are yogurt, mint, oregano, parsley, lamb, olives, dill, tomatoes, peppers, fish and seafood,
honey, red wine vinegar, mastic, phyllo, walnuts, eggplants, and cucumbersto name only
some. It is clear that these two cuisines have been very close, sharing across water and
land for many centuries.
