Answer to Question 1

C

Answer to Question 2

Orientation can be defined as a two-way informational and introductory session conducted by the
employer to educate and excite all participants. Its purpose is to make the new team member an
effective contributor to the kitchen team in the shortest time available. New team members
receive orientation from their fellow team members and from the organization.

Socialization implies the absorbing of a new team member into the culture of the foodservice
organization. It is deliberately separated from the orientation as a training method. It is different
from orientation in that it is not process-oriented. Typically, socialization will cover issues such
as customer focus, philosophy, team focus, mission statement, corporate culture, commitment to
goals, concepts of empowerment, and individual attitudes toward these goals. Orientation is
more of a systematic method to acquaint the new team member with all aspects of the new job.
