Depending on the students' knowledge and comprehension of a hotel financial statement in the Uniform System of Accounts, instructors should describe the format and discuss process for analysis. An emphasis should be placed on the F&B departmental expense data. One negative attribute of the industry data is the potential for a wide range of inputs. Asset Manager's need to evaluate which properties are included in the industry data and how applicable it is for the subject hotel. Some hotels are unique and data for similar property types can be difficult to obtain.
