It is not illegal for independent organizations such as KNEA to sponsor anonymous political messages. Is it unethical? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

Question 2

If KNEA had followed the 10 stages of the public relations writing process (see Chapter 10), would the original postcards have been mailed? Why or why not?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer to Question 1

At the very least, anonymous messages suggest senders are honoring values other
than openness and integrity. For many organizations, such behavior could be
considered unethical.

Answer to Question 2

The first step of the process involves the development and maintenance of
credibility. This is done, in part, by a strict adherence to an organization's
values. Based upon the response of KNEA members to the mailings, these
anonymous postcards did not reflect their values. Also, the eighth step, approval,
probably would have prevented the mailings.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
