Why would you make a window into a component, but a room into a group? What are some other interior design objects that you might make into components?

Answer to Question 1

Components are generally used for objects that will repeat, such as windows. Editing one component edits them all, enabling you to change all windows at once. A room is likely to appear only once in a model, so it can be a group. Other objects that could be made into components are books, dining chairs, plants, bookcases  anything that might appear more than once.

Answer to Question 2

You can press Shift while an axis direction is indicated, to lock that direction. Or you can press one of the arrow keys
