Answer to Question 1

Energy is being transferred to the water in the aluminum pans through convection and conduction. Convection energy is the transfer of heat through air (gas) or liquid currents (water or liquid fat). When heated, hot gases and liquids become less dense and rise while the cooler, heavier gases and liquids flow downward. Energy is being transferred via conduction as the slow, direct transfer of heat energy between adjacent molecules occurs.

Answer to Question 2

The Pyrex, metal, and Styrofoam cups receive heat from conduction. Conduction is the direct transfer of heat from one substance to another that it is contacting.
