Laxatives contain magnesium, which can stimulate the release of water from the cells of the intestines and can speed up the transit of nutrients such that fewer nutrients are absorbed. This can interfere with absorption of glucose, calcium, potassium,vitamin D, and other fat-soluble vitamins. See Table C14-1 for selected drug-nutrient interactions..
