If a person needs 2500 calories a day, what is the range of grams of all fats that he should consume to stay within the Dietary Guidelines? What maximum amount of saturated fat should he consume based on the same guideline?

Answer to Question 1

Step 1: Figure out how many calories should come from fat based on the AMDRs:
2500 x 0.2 = 500 calories (20) 2500 x 0.35 = 875 calories (35)
Step 2: Divide the number of calories by 9 calories per gram:
500 calories  9 calories/gram = 55.6 grams (20) 875 calories  9 calories/gram = 97.2 grams (35)
For saturated fat: 2500 calories x 0.1 = 250 calories (10 maximum)  9 kilocalories/gram = 27.8 grams
