 Benefits to health are strain- and dose-specific.
 Products are not regulated by the FDA; quality, microorganism strains and doses, viability of the microorganisms, and purity vary considerably among products.
 Use may cause temporary gas and bloating.
 Effects last as long as the probiotic is consumed.
 Benefits are usually modest and should generally not replace conventional therapy.
 Individuals who are critically ill or have severe immune system disorders should not use them.
