Second, trait theories often resort to circular explanations to deal with causality. Third, the trait approach has been criticized for being somewhat arbitrary about what personality dimensions are important to measure. Finally, the trait approach is criticized because, unlike what is assumed by trait theories, people's behavior does not always display consistency.
