Answer to Question 2

Research shows that certain high-dose nutrient supplements can be protective against some forms of cancer in high-risk groups of people. For example, there is considerable evidence that consumption of calcium supplements can decrease risk for colorectal cancer. However, use of some high-dose dietary supplements might cause cancer. Studies show that smokers who take supplements of -carotene have increased risk for lung cancer. Thus, the expert group concluded that consumption of nutrients through usual dietas compared to supplementsis preferred. As such, dietary supplements are not recommended for cancer prevention.
