Nonmodifiable risk factors: age, sex, genetics, race, prior incidence of stroke or heart attack, and having been born with low birth weight. Modifiable or lifestyle risk factors: smoking, high blood pressure, elevated blood lipids, physical inactivity and obesity, diabetes, stress, and alcohol consumption.
