Answer to Question 1

The body's proper functioning depends upon two well-developed communication systems that coordinate physiologic processesthe nervous and endocrine systems. When conditions change, the nervous system receives and transmits vital information via electrical impulses between nerve cells, whereas the endocrine system communicates via hormones or chemical messengers in the blood. Hormones are released from glands or cells in response to various stimuli. Hormones exert their effects by binding to receptors on specific tissues, which then initiate an appropriate response to the initial stimulus. Together, the nervous and endocrine systems continuously monitor our internal environment, responding to change and restoring balance. These mechanisms allow us to adapt in an ever-changing environment.
