Answer to Question 1

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine problem affecting approximately 10 of women during their reproductive years. PCOS can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. Women with PCOS have these characteristics: high levels of male hormones, also called androgens -- this may cause excessive facial and body hair growth; an irregular or no menstrual cycle; and in some cases, many small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) on their ovaries. PCOS is the most common hormonal reproductive problem in women of childbearing age.
