Answer to Question 1

FODMAP foods (those containing fermentable oligo-, di-, and monosaccharides and polyols) are not easily digested and absorbed; patients with digestive difficulties should avoid these types of foods, as they can cause abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, and fullness. Alternatively, examples of foods to include are blueberries, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, cranberries, green beans, lettuce, yellow summer squash, red bell peppers, potato, tomato, rice, oats, quinoa, tapioca, rice milk, soy milk, hard cheeses; lactose-free yogurt; and ice cream substitutes (gelatin and sorbet).
