Answer to Question 1

Metabolic Response to Semi-Starvation versus Chronic, Excessive Alcohol Intake

Answer to Question 2

Most individuals know someone with a drinking problem and it takes courage to confront this individual. Sometimes, it may be necessary to ask the college counselor for help with approaching a friend or roommate with a suspected drinking problem. It also may be important to call your friends parents and let them know the pattern and severity of drinking, since we learned from Nicoles story that good grades and athletics can often mask the heartache of an alcohol addiction. Prior to discussing an alcohol problem with your friend, roommate, or family member, it may be wise to write out your script of what you plan to say, in a non-judgmental manner, using only factual information.
