Answer to Question 1

His current nutrition support does not meet his nutritional needs.
Increasing the rate to 95 mL/hr would meet his needs.
If this rate is too high, other formulas higher in caloric density (2 kcal/mL) may be preferable.
Examples of formulas better suited to the diagnosis include those with added arginine, glutamine, and omega-3-fatty acids.

Answer to Question 2

A honeymoon phase is a term used often with newly diagnosed type 1 DM patients and refers to an unexpected production of endogenous insulin by the -cells of the pancreas. This endogenous insulin production is from the remaining, active -cells that have not yet been destroyed. If this phase does occur, insulin needs will not be as high and the dosage may decrease temporarily.
