Answer to Question 1

Ht: 5'10, Wt: 325; BMI: 47, or morbidly obese
IBW: 166, IBW: 196; UBW: 425, UBW: 76
Weight history: Has weighed 250 since age 15 and reached his highest weight of 425 before considering bariatric surgery. He lost 24 prior to the surgery and has now lost approx 100. This is 18 weight loss over four months, which would usually indicate severe malnutrition, but rapid weight loss is expected in Roux-en-Y bariatric surgical patients.

Answer to Question 2

Energy Requirements:
Mifflin-St. Jeor:
REE = 10 x W (kg) + 6.25 x H (cm) - 5 x A (yrs) - 161
REE = 10 x 74.1 kg + 6.25 x 162.56 - 5 x 61 - 161
REE = 1291  1300 kcal/day
TEE = 1582 x 1.2 (PA) x 1.3 (SF) = 2014  2000 kcal/day or 1900-2100 kcal/day

Protein Requirements:
1.2-1.5 g/kg x 74.1 = 89-111 grams

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
