Answer to Question 1

 It is difficult to accurately assess her nutrition history for specific calorie and protein intakes.
 It is clear, though, from her history that she is having difficulty eating.
 Her 24-hour recall indicates intake of approximately 599 kcal and 6.6 g of protein.
 Her intake of Pepsi, an empty-calorie beverage, provided almost 60 of her kilocalories.
 No, she is not consuming adequate amountsonly about 33 of her calorie needs and 11 of her protein requirements.

Answer to Question 2

Using Harris Benedict:
REE = 655.1 + 9.6 W (kg) + 1.9 S (cm) - 4.7 A (yrs)
REE = 655.1 + 9.6 x 50 kg + 1.9 x 157.48 cm - 4.7 x 38 yrs
REE = 1246.9  1300 kcal
TEE = 1246.9 x 1.2 (PA) x 1.3 (SF) = 1945.2  1950 kcal; range of 1900-2000 kcal/day

OR use 30-35 kcal/kg American Chest Physician's nomogram
50 x 30 = 1500 kcal ; 50 x 35 = 1750 kcal

EPR = (1.2-1.5 g/kg) = 1.2-1.5  50 = 60-75 g pro/d
