Answer to Question 1

Supplementation of iron, calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin B12 are of the highest concern for her.
It would be a good idea for Mrs. Rodriguez to be on a general multivitamin with iron. The supplement may be better absorbed in liquid form.
Theoretically, it is believed that a large dose of B12 can be absorbed in small amounts without intrinsic factor.
- This absorption is accomplished through diffusion.
- An oral dose of 150 g may be sufficient to prevent B12 deficiency.
- B12 can also be provided intramuscularly.
- 60-100 g injected monthly would be adequate to prevent pernicious anemia.

Answer to Question 2
