Answer to Question 1

Blood doping, or red blood cell reinfusion, involves removing 250 to 500 milliliters of an athlete's own blood, extracting the red blood cells, and storing them for a few weeks prior to competition. The stored red blood cells are reinfused into the athlete's body as the day of competition approaches, so that the athlete has a higher than normal number of blood cells. This results in an increase in the amount of oxygen in the blood, which can increase aerobic endurance.
