1 ) Fiber increases the bulk of stool, which can dilute cancer-promoting agents in the colon. 2 ) Fiber helps move stool through the digestive tract, limiting the time cancer-promoting substances are in contact with the intestinal lining. 3 ) Fiber promotes the growth of friendly bacteria and their fermentation by-products, which may fight cancer. 4 ) Fiber binds with bile acids and reduces their concentration in the colon, which may deter the development of colorectal cancer.
