Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
There were a few factors that made the 2005 hurricane season unusual. There were 28 tropical storms,
of which 25 progressed into hurricanes. Three hurricanes became category 5, including Hurricane
Katrina. The hurricanes in this season peaked early in their life cycles so they were able to retain their
energy for much longer than normal. Information can be found in the section The Atlantic Hurricane
Season of 2005 Was the Most Destructive Ever Recorded.
