infant discovers connections within own body and by chance and repeats them Secondary circular reactions (six to nine months): actions that connect the infant with the environment are repeated Coordination of secondary circular reactions (10 to 12 months): goal-directed behavior such as grasping an object for examination Tertiary circular reactions (12 to 18 months): infant uses secondary circular reactions as the means to solve new problems Invention of new means through mental combinations (18 to 24 months): infant can solve problems and think through a solution before acting.
