The special education teacher plays several very important roles in a multi-tiered RTI model. These roles can include: collaborating with general education teacher by coteaching and providing consultation services, helping to identify children with disabilities, offering intensive interventions to Tier 3 students, and helping Tier 3 students access the general education curriculum. In addition, special education teachers serve on RTI problem solving teams to assist in progress monitoring and analyzing student data.
